Construction activity expands beyond maintenance as Cedar Park targets congestion points

Cedar Park is advancing multiple transportation projects designed to increase roadway capacity, refresh aging pavement, and expand options for walking and biking. The work is concentrated along corridors that carry heavy commuter and retail traffic—particularly around 183A Toll and New Hope Drive, South Lakeline Boulevard, and the Bell District area near Brushy Creek Road and Cypress Creek Road.

While timelines and traffic impacts differ by location, each project is tied to managing growth and improving daily reliability for drivers and other users. City messaging around these efforts has emphasized phased construction, temporary lane shifts, and the use of alternate routes during peak disruption periods.

1) New Hope Drive expansion and intersection redesign at 183A Toll

A long-term construction effort is underway to expand New Hope Drive from four lanes to six between Block House Drive and County Road 180. The program also includes construction of an “innovative intersection” at New Hope Drive and 183A Toll, a design approach used elsewhere in the region to increase throughput and reduce delay by reorganizing turning movements.

Construction began in mid-September 2024. Early phases included median removal and traffic-control changes that can temporarily reduce the corridor to one lane in each direction. In late February 2025, additional traffic pattern changes took effect at and near the 183A Toll intersection, including a southbound lane closure on 183A adjacent to the intersection, a new south-to-north U-turn configuration, and restrictions on certain left turns from New Hope Drive during culvert-related work.

Drivers should expect shifting lane configurations during drainage and culvert phases before full widening activity accelerates.

The city’s projected construction duration is about 2.5 years, with completion targeted for spring 2027.

2) Lakeline Boulevard road rehabilitation and resurfacing work

Separate from capacity expansion, Cedar Park has been rehabilitating portions of Lakeline Boulevard through pavement improvements aimed at addressing roadway deterioration. The rehabilitation has been presented as a targeted response to damage that accumulated after the February 2021 winter storm, alongside broader resurfacing programs that mill and replace the top layer of asphalt on selected major and neighborhood streets.

As of summer 2024, the city indicated the Lakeline Boulevard rehabilitation and two resurfacing initiatives were nearing completion, with construction scheduled to finish that summer. While these projects are less visible than widening work, they are designed to restore pavement condition, reduce potholes and surface failures, and improve ride quality along heavily used routes.

3) Shared-use path construction linking the Bell District and 183A corridor trails

In the Bell District area, construction began in November 2025 on a shared-use path connecting the Bell District to existing path segments near 183A Toll. The project includes a 10-foot-wide concrete trail intended for walking and cycling, with accessibility features for strollers and wheelchairs. Early work has included demolition and excavation of existing sidewalk segments, and the city has advised residents to plan for detours and intermittent lane closures during construction.

Completion is projected for fall 2026.

  • New Hope Drive expansion: underway; completion projected spring 2027.

  • Lakeline Boulevard rehabilitation/resurfacing: work scheduled to wrap up in summer 2024.

  • Bell District shared-use path: construction started November 2025; completion projected fall 2026.
