Several significant service contracts are active or under review for approval to ensure the continuity of city infrastructure and sanitation. These include an amendment to a contract for continued repair and water treatment parts for the Austin Energy plant demineralizer system, representing a $500,000 increase in funding. Additionally, the city is moving forward with a $970,000 contract for the maintenance and repair of storm water ponds specifically serving Austin Energy facilities.

For residential and commercial services, an amendment to contracts with Texas Disposal Systems and Balcones Recycling is being addressed. This adjustment is intended to maintain trash, recycling, and organics collection services for all city-managed facilities. Furthermore, a $510,000 budget increase is being considered for the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex to support ongoing community operations.

Health Advisories and Community Wellness

Austin Public Health (APH) remains in an active monitoring state for seasonal illnesses and community well-being. The following advisories are currently in effect for the Austin-Travis County area:

  • Seasonal Flu and Allergy Alert: Health officials continue to urge caution as the region navigates peak allergy and flu season. Residents are reminded that flu vaccinations remain available and are the primary defense against severe seasonal respiratory illness.
  • Youth Mental Health Initiative: In coordination with today’s Council proclamations, APH is highlighting the "Ask Listen Talk Repeat" campaign. This initiative provides resources for parents and guardians to support children facing anxiety, depression, or stress.

Parks and Neighborhood Infrastructure

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is implementing a new mobile security initiative. A contract for mobile security trailers and active monitoring services has been established to enhance safety and oversight across various city parkland areas. Simultaneously, Austin Water has identified several neighborhood-level infrastructure projects for the month of February, including water and wastewater pipeline renewals in the Parker Lane and Central East Austin neighborhoods to address aging infrastructure and improve service reliability.
