Interstate 35 Northbound Lane Closures

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced significant road closures as part of the ongoing I-35 Capital Express South Project. Northbound main lanes of Interstate 35 between Slaughter Lane and Ben White Boulevard are scheduled for closure through the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2026. These lanes will be restricted until approximately 10:00 a.m. to facilitate construction activities related to the $548 million corridor overhaul. Local drivers are advised to seek alternate routes or utilize the northbound frontage roads. Detours are currently in place at Exit 228 for those traveling toward the SH 71 and Ben White Boulevard intersection.

New Community Amenities at East Williamson Creek

City officials and the Austin Watershed Protection Department have officially announced the completion of the East Williamson Creek Greenbelt and drainage improvement project. As of this weekend, residents have full access to a newly completed network of trails and a nature play area for children. The project also included the installation of a new storm drain system designed to reduce flood risks for nearby homes by directing stormwater more efficiently into Williamson Creek. Future enhancements for the area, including murals and interpretive signage on the Creek Bend flood wall, are expected to begin later this year.

Upcoming City Council Meeting and Registration

The Austin City Council is preparing for its regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2026. Public registration for speakers wishing to address the council will officially open tomorrow, Monday, March 9, at 10:00 a.m. Items on the upcoming agenda include an interlocal agreement with Travis County for animal-related services and proposed amendments to the city code regarding the regulation of lobbyists. Residents interested in participating either in person or remotely must complete their registration through the City Clerk’s online portal during the designated registration window.

Regional Health and Utility Notices

Austin Public Health is supporting the American Stroke Association’s CycleNation campaign, which officially launched this week. The initiative aims to raise awareness for brain health and stroke prevention, with fundraising efforts culminating in a community event later this spring. In regional utility news, the neighboring city of Pflugerville remains under emergency Stage 3 water restrictions following a major pipeline break. While the city of Austin is assisting with rerouting water lines to stabilize the regional supply, Pflugerville customers are currently prohibited from all outdoor irrigation and non-essential water use.

The Texas Workforce Commission has issued a public notice regarding planned system maintenance on Sunday, March 8, 2026. The Work Opportunity Tax Credit and Learner Outcomes Tracking systems will be unavailable from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. CT. Users are encouraged to complete any necessary filings or documentation prior to the service window to avoid delays.
