Official Notices: Barton Springs Maintenance and Environmental Committee Briefings
City Notice Roundup for Wednesday, February 25, 2026
The City of Austin has issued several official notices and public service announcements regarding municipal governance, park maintenance, and public health active for today, Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Residents are encouraged to review these updates to stay informed on local service impacts and upcoming city deliberations.
Public Meetings and Governance
The Climate, Water, Environment, and Parks Committee is scheduled to hold a regular meeting today, February 25. This session will focus on environmental policy and municipal resource management. Citizens may view the agenda through the Office of the City Clerk. Additionally, while the full City Council does not convene until tomorrow, February 26, the official agenda is now public, featuring critical discussions on a proposed $1.4 billion airport revenue bond for the expansion of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and an ordinance regarding electronic signage in public rights-of-way.
Parks and Recreation Maintenance Alerts
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has several active facility notices impacting recreational access across the city:
- Barton Springs Pool Closure: The pool is currently closed for its annual spring maintenance and the Barton Springs Skimmer Bypass Project. This closure began on Monday, February 23, and is expected to continue through Friday, March 13, 2026. During this period, the pool is inaccessible to the public.
- I-35 Pedestrian Bridge: The pedestrian bridge crossing Lady Bird Lake on the east side of I-35 remains closed to all traffic. This is part of the long-term TxDOT I-35 Capital Express project. Trail users are advised to detour via the South Congress Avenue bridge to cross between the north and south shores.
- Local Park Playscapes: Maintenance closures remain in effect for the playscapes at Springdale Neighborhood Park and the 5-12 playscape at Bartholomew District Park. These facilities are closed until further notice for safety repairs and equipment replacement.
Health and Safety Advisories
Flooding Disaster Proclamation: A state-level disaster proclamation remains active for Travis County following a renewal by the Governor’s office earlier this month. The order facilitates the use of state resources to address the impacts of persistent rainfall and flash flooding events that have affected the region. Residents are urged to monitor local weather channels and avoid low-water crossings during active storms.
Public Health Guidance: Austin Public Health (APH) continues to monitor seasonal illness trends. Health officials recommend that all eligible residents receive a flu vaccination if they have not already done so. With Central Texas entering a peak period for cedar and spring allergies, APH also suggests residents check daily pollen counts and consult with healthcare providers regarding respiratory symptoms.
