Austin City Council Supports New Affordable Housing Initiatives

Following recent sessions, the Austin City Council has officially passed a resolution to support applications for state Low-Income Housing Tax Credits for six proposed developments across the city. This move is part of a broader effort to address the ongoing citywide rental crisis by incentivizing the construction of dedicated affordable units. These projects aim to provide stable housing for residents earning a specific percentage of the area's median income, with several developments situated near major transit corridors to improve accessibility for non-drivers.

The City of Austin Watershed Protection Department has announced the completion of a historic $28.5 million erosion stabilization project at Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park. • The opening of a new pedestrian bridge designed to withstand future high-flow flood events.
  • Stabilization of the Country Club West creek channel to protect nearby infrastructure and Krieg Fields.
  • Ongoing maintenance of newly planted native trees and grasses along the naturalized river bottom.

Airport Expansion: West Infill Project Milestone

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has reached a pivotal milestone in its "Journey With AUS" expansion program. City leaders celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the 75,000-square-foot West Infill project this week. While the structure is now complete, travelers should take note of the following service update:

  • A new, state-of-the-art TSA Checkpoint is scheduled to open to the public on February 23, 2026.
  • The expansion includes four levels of infrastructure upgrades designed to improve security efficiency and passenger comfort.

Public Health: Seasonal Allergy and Flu Advisory

Austin Public Health (APH) continues to urge residents to exercise caution as the region experiences a peak in both seasonal allergies and flu activity. Health officials recommend that residents stay up to date on vaccinations, with several community clinics scheduled throughout the month of February. APH also notes a continued rise in food insecurity across the Travis County area and encourages those in need of assistance to utilize local food service resources provided by the department.

CapMetro: Public Input Requested for 2026 Service Changes

Capital Metro is seeking community feedback on proposed service changes slated for June 2026.
