Public Safety Committee and Commission Meetings

On Monday, February 2, 2026, the City of Austin Public Safety Committee will convene for a regular meeting to discuss several critical updates regarding city infrastructure and community regulations. A primary focus of the session includes a briefing on the proposed ordinance to amend City Code Chapter 12-1, which aims to address and create an offense for unreasonable vehicle engine noise. The committee will also receive comprehensive briefings on public safety dashboards from the chiefs of the Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS).

In addition to the committee session, the Public Safety Commission is scheduled to meet. Key items on their agenda include a staff presentation from the Austin Homeless Strategies and Operations office and an update on the city’s overtime expenses, following a plan proposed to provide monthly transparency on public safety staffing costs.

Election Notice: Voter Registration Deadline

Today marks the final day for residents to register to vote in the upcoming March 3, 2026, Joint Primary Election. The Travis County Clerk’s office reminds citizens that applications must be postmarked or submitted in person by the close of business on February 2 to be eligible for the primary. This deadline also applies to voters who need to update their address or name on their current registration. Residents are encouraged to verify their status through the official Travis County voting portal.

Austin ISD and Community Advisories

Austin Independent School District (AISD) officially begins School Counselor Appreciation Week today, February 2. Parents and students are encouraged to recognize the contributions of campus counselors throughout the week. Furthermore, the Multilingual Education Advisory Committee is scheduled to hold a public meeting this evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. to discuss support services for the district's diverse student population.

Parks and Facilities Update

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department reports that Barton Springs Pool has resumed standard operations following a weekend of winterization. While permanent restroom facilities were temporarily closed due to forecasted low temperatures, they are expected to be fully operational today. Additionally, the department reminds residents that the Bartholomew Park 5-12 playscape remains closed for maintenance until further notice, and trail access at Willow Street continues to be restricted due to ongoing construction in the Red River area.
