Austin-Bergstrom’s December 2025 traffic rose, while 2025 totals edged down slightly from 2024

December closes with higher traffic, but 2025 finishes marginally lower overall
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) reported 1,888,492 total passengers in December 2025, an increase of 3.41% compared with December 2024. Departing passengers (enplanements) totaled 960,181, up 3.64% year over year.
For the full year, AUS handled 21,666,852 arriving and departing passengers from January through December 2025, a 0.44% decrease from the same period in 2024. Total enplanements for the year were 10,857,912, down 0.23%.
Carrier results show divergent growth among major and low-cost airlines
Monthly airline totals in December reflected mixed performance among the airport’s largest carriers. Southwest remained the largest airline by passengers with 799,585 travelers in December, up 2.5% year over year. Delta recorded 324,766 passengers, up 13.5%. American carried 288,538 passengers, down 11%, while United carried 223,736, up 2.4%.
Several smaller and low-cost carriers posted large percentage gains off lower bases. Frontier recorded 49,457 passengers in December, up 69.6%. JetBlue carried 22,556, up 179.3%. Spirit carried 36,710, up 18%. International carriers with December increases included Aeromexico (9,947, up 8.9%), Air Canada (8,234, up 11.4%), and Copa (6,477, up 12.8%), while British Airways (17,916, down 5.4%) and Lufthansa (6,759, down 1.5%) declined.

Annual totals: Southwest leads; Delta grows; American declines
Across 2025, Southwest carried 8,904,277 passengers, down 0.8% from 2024. Delta carried 3,819,112 passengers, up 14.9%, while American carried 3,508,972, down 17.9%. United totaled 2,691,026 passengers, up 4.4%. Frontier’s passenger count rose to 553,311, up 147.1% year over year.
Cargo declines overall as international cargo edges up
Air cargo volumes at AUS fell in both December and across the year. December 2025 air cargo totaled 22,280,930 pounds, down 9.69% from December 2024, while international air cargo for the month rose to 1,969,762 pounds, up 6.89%.
From January through December 2025, total air cargo was 276,375,963 pounds, down 8.45% year over year. International air cargo totaled 30,395,355 pounds, up 1.05%.
December’s passenger gains contrasted with a near-flat year overall, underscoring a strong end-of-year travel period amid shifting airline performance at AUS.
Aircraft operations trend upward in combined activity
In December, general aviation operations totaled 3,375, up 3.65%, while combined operations—including commercial and military—totaled 22,416, up 9.72%. For the year, general aviation operations were 42,683, down 0.43%, and combined operations reached 265,366, up 2.08%.
