Austin-Bergstrom adds seasonal Cayman Airways nonstop flights to Grand Cayman, expanding Central Texas international options

A new nonstop international route is scheduled to begin in late May 2026
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is set to gain a new seasonal international nonstop link in 2026, with Cayman Airways planning weekly Sunday service between Austin (AUS) and Grand Cayman (GCM). The inaugural flight is scheduled for May 24, 2026, with service planned to operate through mid-August as a summer-only offering.
The launch would make Cayman Airways the only carrier offering a direct Austin–Grand Cayman flight during the announced operating window. The service is described as subject to regulatory approval, a standard step for international route launches that can include authorizations related to operating rights and scheduling.
Schedule, aircraft, and what travelers should expect
Under the published plans, the route would operate once per week on Sundays using a Boeing 737-8 configured with 160 seats, including a business-class cabin. The proposed schedule lists:
AUS to GCM: departure 12:45 p.m., arrival 3:45 p.m.
GCM to AUS: departure 8:15 a.m., arrival 11:15 a.m.
Cayman Airways has also outlined onboard service elements for the route, including a complimentary meal and in-flight entertainment options, alongside standard carry-on allowances.
Why the route matters for Austin and for the Cayman Islands
For Austin-area travelers, the announcement adds a Caribbean leisure destination to the airport’s roster of international options and reduces reliance on connecting itineraries through major U.S. hubs. For Cayman-based travelers, the route provides nonstop access to Central Texas, a region that has seen sustained population and business growth and is a frequent origin for domestic connections onward across the United States.
Tourism officials in the Cayman Islands have framed the Austin route as part of a broader effort to increase direct airlift from major North American markets, particularly during peak travel periods. The Austin service fits that pattern as a limited-run summer schedule designed around vacation travel demand.
Context: a route that previously appeared on schedules before being confirmed
Industry schedule data in 2025 briefly showed a potential Austin–Grand Cayman service, but it was later described at the time as a hypothetical or erroneous filing. The 2026 announcement formalizes the plan with an identified start date, operating day, and aircraft type, positioning the route as a scheduled seasonal addition pending final approvals.
Service is scheduled to begin May 24, 2026, operating weekly on Sundays as a seasonal summer route.
Ticket availability has been described as imminent, with sales expected to open at the end of January. Travelers should verify final operating dates and flight times at booking, as seasonal routes can be adjusted before launch.
